I may as well dive in here as well. In 1970 and just out of the army, I was headed back to my job as a Construction Teamster at $7.50 plus full benefits. My recently graduated brother was waiting for me at my sister's home in Eugene Ore., where we intended to begin a long awaited ride down the California coast, and lucky for me, I still had my legs after a year in Viet Nam. At a LBS in Eugene I bought a Motobecane touring bike of some sort, with full gear, at a price so low I can't even remember what it was because it left no imprint on my memory (or my wallet).
