In my vintage collecton I have only one frame, 1948 Holdsworth Laquelda not lugged, among the older frames this one DOES seem to ride a little better and is a little lighter, so are lugs the answer? my 2006 Mercian Vincitorie has lugs, quite nice, but is heavy compared to some of the new frames around, BUT it does ride very nice, did 470 miles in seven days onthe Bicycle tour of Colorado, climbed MANY steep mountain passes, had no troulbe keeping up with the pack, Eye candy once again, I do think some of the older lugged frames are over done and only for a markerting standpoint,as is I think. the cury Hetchins and Baines gate designs are, I have a 1951 Bates BAR with Cantiflex and diadrant forks, this is a VERY stiff and live handling frame, but could be, at my age tiring on longer touring rides, So once again different strokes for diffrerent folks, many of the newer riders, have no clue about lugs, " what are lugs? they say, Cheers John Crump OldluggedforlifeBrit, Parker, Co USA
