Sidenote, Chuck: The German Olympic Team used them, but the fellow who got them made and sent to Germany was Hugo Rickert of Dortmund, who was supplying the German team with bikes and equipment, being the foremost builder in Germany of his day. His was the idea / suggestion to Campagnolo to make the HiLo originally. They had a 500 hubset minimum order, but he got them to make only 300 for the first run, as he was a small KOF kinda guy and couldn't quite swing so many pairs. It didn't hurt that he was well acquainted with the German distributing agent who just happened to be married to one of Campagnolo's nieces. A kind word from friends in high places. I really don't know the origen of the hub with the rounded end by the thread. A single freewheel coud be screwed onto a track hub without a problem of thread stripping as the chainline was fairly straight. But we never put on a 5 / 6 cog freewheel on a track hub because that we knew would strip the thread away because of the chain angle and force. Saw it in our shop a few times, from upset inexperienced experimenters.
