A year or so ago, I bought a new triple TA ring set from Mike Barry of Mariposa cycles to replace my old set used for ten years on my old RS tourer. I found the new middle stiffener ring on it as well and thought it took away from the elegant minimalist look of a wide range half step and granny, 28x48x53. On closer examination, I found that the rings were thinner on the new ones. A caliper proved that my old setup had 4 mm thick rings and the new one with the extra webbing was only 3.5 mm. Right now that new crankset is a pretty wallhanger, while the old one cleaned and polished up to practically as nice as new and is back on the old Richard Sachs. The bike's gotta look good! I know I wore out a few chains on that crankset, but the teeth look great and it still shifts as good as before. These chainrings never warped for me any more than my old Campy's used to, so I'm fine with them. Sorry to see that TA has cheapened the thickness of the old rings. http://image48.webshots.com/49/7/42/37/376874237msalCB_fs.jpg

I dida double-take, thinking I saw 4 rings, rather than 3. Now I have seen aquad TA franken crank, but this was a web connecting the "spokes" of theinner chainring. All my TA triples lack this webbing. Is thissomething atypical? I imagine it might stiffen-up the chainset a bit. ebay item:130032261374 Mark Hoffman New Britain, CT USA
