>>>Does anybody have an extra pair (or two) of older tire covers? I don't need a bag for the entire wheel, but would consider bags if they are available. Also, any links to websites that might have some for sale would be appreciated. Thanks, Matthew "trying to protect my extra wheelsets" Bowne Brooklyn, New York<<<<
Vittoria made some tire covers that are still available in a couple of places. Different than the vinyl versions most of us are familiar with, these are rubber, sort of tire-like and are stretched over the mounted tire for a tighter fit. Probably much more protective than the vinyl ones too, but more difficult to use. Depends on what you really want them for, I guess. I have a couple pair, and the are kinda cool, in a funky sort of way. I've only seen them in the Celeste color that I have, but they may have made others. I like the older vinyl covers better, especially the ones with logos because they are better for display. I have some of those badged as Vitus, Suntour and was even given a pair originally from frame builder Colin Laing in Tucson, and I'm always on the look-out for them. They do pop up on eBay from time to time.
You can get the Vittorias here for only $9.99 a pair:
