Kurt Sperry asked (in a different context):

Tangentially, did Schwinn ever make a triple ashtabula for a Varsity/Continental variant? I almost think I remember seeing one...

**************************** I am almost certain that your memory is correct on this. In the mid-1960s, I believe that the Continental variant (deviant?) was called the Sierra. I think there was a later variant of the Super Sport, too, but I cannot recall its name. Frankly, I would not accept the Sierra as a gift. Please don't tempt me. But, I guess the truck scale used for weighing Continentals and their derivatives would not note the difference. Their virtues were durability and child-proofing, not performance. Me, a snob?
