"Renting" of names is/was a common practice; and not always with good results for the rider in question! One of the most egregious examples of this is that of Reg Harris, and the Lambert bikes bearing his name. Reg was flim-flammed by the hucksters who started Lambert, into endorsing their product line, which he did in good faith. When Lambert dissolved in a morass of criminal charges, lawsuits, and overall bad craziness, the reputation of this champion was wrongly besmirched by the actions of his buisness associates...hardly a fitting footnote to the career of a great cyclist!
