My vote is to leave it as is. I think Peter's suggestion is a good one. Build it up with battered, but working, parts, and ride it. I have a very nice early Carlsbad Masi that falls into this category, and I don't think I'll ever have it repainted, and I don't even like the color much. But, it's all there, and all-original paint and graphics, except for a decent amateur touch-up job on the top-tube. I think I have about 500 bucks in it, all told. The best value in my collection, probably.

One compromise you could make: have the top-tube repainted, then lightly aged to match the rest, if you really can't stand it. The only place I know of who does this well is CyclArt.

But, if you can handle that top-tube, just build and ride...or, find some silver spray paint that's a close match, spray paint the top-tube yourself, then beat it up..it'll still look better than it does now, and it'll definitely be more authentic.

You could have it completely repainted by Joe Bell, it'd look great, but then you'd have some serious money in it, not to mention that you'd have to find clean parts for it, and that costs more too. And it wouldn't be original anymore, the biggest compromise of all.

Leave it be, and you can find a cheap beater Nuovo Record bike (they're on ebay all the time) to use as a donor... I found one for 100 bucks from a fellow CR lister to outfit my Masi..
