There are more details in Tony Hadland's Moulton book about Tom Simpson testing the Moulton at Herne Hill track in Easter 1963. Tony also goes into great detail re John Woodburn's Cardiff–London record. He makes mentions of the rumours surrounding locked up suspension and suggests that this was unlikely bearing in mind the ultra-light tubs used and the 16 spoke front wheel. John Woodburn is also on record in the book as praising the rear suspension action when talking to Tony but disliking the front suspension especially on hills. What is more interesting I think is the pic of a four man pursuit team at the Coventry Butts track on Moultons – the Moultons offer a real advantage in team pursuits (or team TTs too) as it possible because of the small wheels to draft the rider in front far closer than with bikes with conventional sized wheels...

Onto far less worthy dead end designs, Dag Otto Lauritzen probably did not get as far along the course as you were standing, Roy – they were pretty fragile!
