Haven't seen the Portland jerseys up close, but the lettering on them does look a little crude. And I agree with the idea of having the new jerseys made in Italy rather than China. Not that quality goods can't be made in China, but I'm of the opinion that "free trade" too often means exploiting Chinese workers and impoverishing American ones while American CEO's pay themselves $100 million bonuses on the profits. Free trade works best between countries with comparable labor costs and standards of living, like the US and Italy. Understand, I don't accuse Alex Clarke of getting filthy rich, it's just that the blind acceptance of the "global economy" thing is something I'm not comfortable with. So I'm with Dale on the sourcing of the jerseys.

Thanks for that idea; I do understand your motivation here...

You know, I may alienate a few folks with this opinion (sorry) but I am not crazy about the look and (my perception) the quality of those "Portland" jerseys. I looked closely at them at Interbike and they are "OK", but gee whiz, I take the image of the CR sort of seriously, yada yada, and I just don't want to go there.... I do admit a personal prejudice of Italian over China although I know everything is changing, yada yada again!)

Is that so wroung? :)

Thanks Dale

If 30 people wanted a simple Portland Cyclewear jersey they'd only be, what, $55.

(I don't follow their pricing for flocked letters---they say $3.50---is that per letter? I don't know if flocking is cheaper or fancier than embroidery. If it's $3.50 for the whole name that makes it only $43.50 for 30 jersies.)

I suppose anyone could just order their own one-off for, what, $85.

I haven't sold enough bike books to afford a $125 jersey. Someday!
