Subject: [CR]Help With Malvern Star Frame- Steel Info

I have a Malvern Star path frame. It's a one star model. I know that these guys were at the bottom of the pecking order, but I'm curious to know what type of steel these may have been made from.

Some background:

As for the age, it's a bit of a mystery. After some back and forth with Rolf Lunsmann he decided that the frame was made after the 1950's as there is no serial number stamped anywhere on the frame. To me, the decals suggest 1970's, but the paint scheme (hand box lined), frame type, etc, suggest 1960's. It has pencil width seat stays, and the lugs, while not fancy, are much nicer (aesthetically) than those found on two star models. There is also a very plain decal below the seat lug that reads A 18823. The last indicator is that later Malvern catalogs seem to make no mention of a one star model. This seems to stop around 1954ish.

Anyhow, it has been suggested that it was possibly Reynolds as some higher end, 5 star models were made from this. But would this be true for a one star?

Since most of the bike has been a mystery, I've sort of been blindly restoring it with period parts rather than the exact parts that would have been on it, as no one seems to know what those would have been. Most likely, English parts (BSA). So I have tried to stick with that.

Anyhow, any information on my frame would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
