Fred recently brought Cycles Marcarini to the attention of the List as a supplier of good quality repro jerseys..and listed his email address.
I know Gianni Marcarini and traded with him some years ago but not for clothing. He has set his stall out to be the Number One supplier in France of cycling clothing and he invests heavily in Press advertising..and has done so for years.. so I doubt whether he is suplying lower quality products. If the List would like me to approach him for quotes, estimates etc I would be pleased to do so.
Another well-known French cyclist has set himself up in the cycling rag trade in recent years, but to date he gas not branched out into retro-ware, producing instead jerseys for clubs, special events, audax rides etc. This guy is none other than Bernard Thevenet, the former Peugeot pro..and winner of the Tour-d-France in '75 and '77; his factory is at Cran-Gevrier, just outside Annecy..so any trip of that area that intends to visit the MAVIC factory..should invite Bernard out to lunch as well.
I can't claim to know Bernard that well ,but I have had dinner with him during which we discussed our personal ascents of Mt Ventoux..me riding a 38 inner ring with 28T on the cassette..and Bernard winning a stage on the mountain churning round a 45Tx23T set-up. He did admit to being a tad younger than me..and on form that year.
Again, if you wish me to make contact with him, I would be pleased to do so, particularly as he has a close business relationship with a close French friend of mine.
