My favorite race shoes back in the day were Marresi's. They seemed so super-Euro to me. They worked great, too. They were the Campy of shoes before there was Dura-Ace. But they looked even better. I I probably got them in 1987 (not in the CR timeline but what the hey). After quitting racing in 1990, I gave them to a friend. I noticed he still had them the other day. He didn't use them and was happy to give them back. I think I'll re-polish them and hang them on the wall in my shop...or maybe my office. Like boxer's gloves. They look as nice as anything in a room.

When I was a freshman my roommates nicknamed me "Shoes." That was a surprise to me, a bumpkin, but when I looked at my shoes I saw why. It was the number of shoes I had. None of them were fancy but I had a lot of shoes under my bed, all lined up. At least 6 pairs "just to get by." Dress, running, cycling, winter, skiing, slippers.... I have 3 big boxes of shoes in the basement right now and plenty by the front door and in the upstairs closet and I use almost all of them at the right time. This is counting speedskates and inline skates and XC ski boots which all go in the shoe boxes in the basement. Whew.

Here's a link to pics of the Marresi's, front and back. I think they still look fine. Well, they need to be polished and blacked, of course. It's GREAT to have them back.
