I believe the NR (and old SR) to be able to wrap about 24T total. That means if you have a 13-26 in the back you can only handle about 11 teeth in the front. You can't get all the possible combinations. In other words you can only get the big ring and three of the small rears or two large rears and the small one in front. Works OK until you forget and try to go from big to big and get a jam or small to small and have large amounts of chain slopping about. (But I've done it for years)
