I cannot from you information comment on the rest of the geometry too much but 74 a degree head angle would probably place it in the 80's. Classic Italian geometry from the 70's, 60's or earlier would not be that.
Colnago used double taper stays way back in the early 70's if not earlier. I would not call them exclusive or faddish.
It is good that it does what you want it to, and devining why it does it not that much of a mystery if comparing your review of the handling and complete geometry of various bikes that you have owned. Gots to be careful of what one calls classic geometry though, it is time frame dependent.
