I've never tried KL or Record, but I did ride Mike Appel's Ishiwata Alpha frame. For a light rider (I was about 130# at the time) it rode pretty nicely. IIRC, Mike rode the bike for about 3 years before it failed. It was fillet brazed, not lugged, FWIW.
