Bob Hovey has a neat theory about stampings as part of the builders' signature features. Perhaps those are Mario indicators? I recall the tang cutouts are also unique, and I think those shapes are neater and more distinct in some way than on my bike.

Even if it's not a Confente, it is a thing of beauty. My GC isn't really a good fit, but it rides and looks so nice, even with all its patina, that I find it hard to think about selling it.

The placement and orientation of stamps apply to post-Carlsbad bikes, not an issue with this one. The "Mario-esque" features that tip this bike off are the seatstay ends, the drilling of the top tube and the shape and refinement of the window on the DT tang of the BB. Might also be some extra detailing on the rear dropouts as well but the seller didn't include closeups of this area.

The description says that the guy who sold him the bike did not want his name mentioned, but the seller did comfirm on the phone that the bike belonged to Roland Sahm.
