Joe : RE: [CR]1949 Holdsworth Paint Finishes

Sincere Thanks for the personal response. I do have good references for Pantone colours. Thanks for the "202C" pointer. I can take it from there and match the Pantone number to the Imron number.

If you still happen to have any photos of your Whirlwind, please feel free to attach off-list or point. I have no issues with email attachment size or bandwidth.

For what it's worth ... my 1949 CdL is one of three I've been chasing NOS kit bits for. All in good time, there is also a 1948 from the custom shop, and a 1955 Zephyr that deserve the complete loving care approach.

If any other list members can point me to a photograph of what is believed to be a sample of vintage correct "1949 Maroon Luster" ... thanks ... keep pointing or attach off-list.

Regards to all,

Tory, I had a Whirlwind in the early 70's which was re-enamelled by Albert Smith of Clerkenwell. Mine too was in the same metallic Maroon as yours. Albert and our other well established bicycle enamellers call it Crimson. The nearest Pantone colour I believe is 202C but in a Poly or Flam. <edit>
