How common was French pedal thread on early/mid 70's Raleighs? My 1974 Super Tourer came with French-threaded Stronglight cranks, which I thought was odd on a Raleigh, but maybe this was actually typical.

My 1975 Raleigh Gran Sport came to me with Stronglight cranks, obviously french threade and italian ROTO pedals. I was able to get a set of NOS Atomm 440 pedals. When I removed the Rotos they came off quite hard and I had too use som force to break them loose. That for me indicated that the previous owner just put on the wrong threaded pedals without tapping before. I then put on the Atoms and they installed easily... So if you do not cross thread you can go there and back. I would not change the pedals again though....

the only disadvantage that I have come up with being a vegetarian is the

availability of bacon and other meat fats. This is BY FAR the best lubricant that I have ever used (including tap magic) for drilling and tapping aluminum and other non ferrous metals. It is also a fine coating to extend the life of sandpaper (reduce the clogging on belts, discs, etc.) and expedite the surfacing of metal..

so, if anyone in the area decides that the birds and squirrels do no need suet this winter, or they are pedaling instead of driving their biodiesel cars, I will happily take that grease off your hands....
