Jerry wrote:-That's the same explanation I've always heard. So, did Eddy ride small flange hubs in Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders, but large flange in other races? Regards,Jerry If only things were that logical. The earliest photo I have of Eddy Merckx is 1962, aged 16, and he has small flange hubs. The only photos of Eddy with LF are in his Peugeot years 1966 & 67. Interestingly in the famous two up break with Simpson, also Peugeot, in the 1967 Paris-Nice Eddy is on LF and Tom is on SF. I am fairly sure that from 1968 onwards (Faema) Eddy was exclusively on small flange. Incidentally I just read that for his last season with C&A (a Dutch clothing retailer known in the UK as Coats and 'Ats) the team frames were once again supplied by Kessels. Re: Hugh Porter, Steve writes:- I know Hugh Porter was a quite famous track cyclist in the late? 50's but what about cycles bearing his name? Steve Chambers Chesterfield England A nice example of the famous English understatement! Four Pro World Pursuit Championships between 1968 and 1973 and he is only quiet famous! Let me tell you that he is the second most famous man in Wolverhampton behind Billy Wright (don't ask). Don't recall what the bikes were like but during his best years he rode a Condor.
