I've a friend who puts on a lot of miles. About 445,000 so far. This guy is slender, a spinner and generally very easy on equipment.

He has found that with enough miles, the barrels of the high flange Campi Record hubs break right in two. He attributes this to the increased flexing of the barrel, caused by more leverage from the high flanges.

A fly landing on an anvil flexes the anvil, we just can't measure it. Yet. Any amount of flex, no matter how small, if repeated often enough will cause any aluminum part to fail.
