Subject: [CR]"Taps-R-Us" for abused threads

Norris:

Thank you for your kind offer.

But I do have a set of pedal taps. Bought them so that I would be able to use clipless pedals on classic cranksets. The threads on my 49D were badly abused. Your long, shallow lead screw taps would have made the job easier and safer.

The taps worked fine on clean threads, but have a had time catching "abused" threads. I tried both sides, and constantly extracted to clear the threads with a French pedal.

I had no such trouble on clean Nervar and Dotec practice cranks. Standard taps cut through the pedal threads like butter.

On the bright side, I now have a clean set of 49D's for my Hobbs (one piece at a time). The new BSA threads on the 49's look much better than the previous French threads, and the pedals now slip in and out freely.
