Doug, if you did 240 miles in a 12.hour race in 1954, you must have been far short of the national competition record !
By any chance was Ron Kitching competing in the race? He often told me of his journeys..often by bike, down south to compete in 1 and 24 hour time-trials, distances at which I think he was quite successful.
