Hi CR group,

Up on the block today is an Epgrave NO 1 frame from about 1953. For those in the know, Ephgrave is often considered to be if anything a level above Hetchins - very fine lugwork (but not super ornate). This example has been refinished and is the one I purchased on ebay from Mick Butler a few years back (my landed cost was close to $900 with shipping I think). Toptube is about 56.5cc or so.

It is a refinished frame in a darkish red/orange color with contrasting grey headtube and seatube pannels. The paint is nice, but not American quality (which is often a good thing). Decals are nice and look original and correct. Bike has that nice restored but not overdone quality to it.

Frame has a few blems on it since paint (but has never been built up after refinish I believe). As in most cases, a few condition things to bring up. There are some dents/dings on the inner side of the left forkblade that apparently were not attended to before paint. They are significant but not easily noticable - could the fork ever fail as a result? I don't doubt it, but if you buy the frame and your uncomfortable with it you can send it back for a refund less shipping cost). Also a very minor ding on the toptube (very minor, may be hard to photograph). There is a fresh headset in the frame, but the fork is a bit short for it - it is OK as it is, but a different headset (or if someone took some meat off the very thick keyed lockwasher) it would be better.

Spacing of the frame is for older style hubs (i.e the smaller diameter axles and the rear is about 113mm, which looks to be in a tad from the 115mm I'd expect).

Bike probably wants an early Huret or simplex rear changer with a suicide or single ring up front.

If interested, email me and I'll send you a few photos. First one who says "yes I'll take it for sure" in an email gets it. Price is $790 plus shipping by fedx ground - and unfortunately due to the time involved I don't want to ship it outside the continental US - sorry about that. You can pay by check or money order - or if you want to use paypal please add $24 for paypal fees to the price.

Thanks!
