Yes, as I recall I've done exactly that. I seem to recall that the Retrofriction brazeon levers bizarrely won't fit on Retrofriction clamps, but will fit on the clamps from the cheap plastic Prestige shifters. Actually, the Prestige clamps are pretty nice, even though the rest of the shifter is crap. I bought a bagful of Prestige shifters from Mike Kone years ago and mostly used the clamps to convert brazeon Retrofrictions, then threw away the rest of the Prestige mechanism. You can use the plastic head wingnut fixing bolts from the Prestige shifters, but I found a size of stainless socket head cap screw from the hardward store that fit. I don't think it was specifically metric thread, but it worked. Much more elegant looking. Can't remember the size - you may have to take the clamp to the store and try a few.

I need a set of clamp on Simplex RF shifters, but seem to only find the braze on version. Can you mount braze on retrofriction shifters using the band from the POS Delrin plastic shifters? Thanks.........
