Hello Dale,

Hmm, somehow I knew I was getting into the deep poo-poo when I bought these four framesets. Now I wonder if I'll ever get rid of them...

I did find the roughness of the finish around the rim of the seatstay lug (on the red machine) a tad odd, but figured that it might have been poorly finished, as the seatpost binder holes appeared never to have had a binder bolt through 'em, and that the other two new-condition framesets (one of the 60cm frames has been used) did not have this problem. Had no idea that the gold paint in the inlays was not typical of Guerciotti. The gold, I should note, is on all four frames, including the rusty and used 60cm '83 frame (farthest to the right in the first group photo).

I'm not sure how Guerciotti would ordinarily finish them, but the lugs on all of the machines appear to be Prugnats - the two 60cm machines, which I intend (or, possibly, "HAD intended" - we shall soon see) to keep, have the variant with the small curl on each side of the head lugs, and the two tall frames which I have for sale here do not, but I believe are also a variant of Prugnat lug. Not that this means anything, just thought I'd say it, as this is about the extent that I know about the lugs on these things.

Yes, CBT Italia dropouts. On this frame only - two of the three have Campagnolo short drops (one with dual threaded mounts for a Campagnolo chain hanger), and the last one has unmarked drops, which look like Campagnolo 1010B short-drop copies.

I got these framesets from a local bike shop, or, as the picture seems to be unfolding before me, a local frankenbike shop. Had I known more about Guerciottis, I would have probably realized that the one other VLW hanging around there, a tiny De Rosa Neo Primato, had been fiddled around with as well...but I didn't. That's right, I bought it, and stuck it up on eBay with this photo:

Everything seemed all right until an eBayer who actually knows about De Rosas (I know diddily about them - ask me about Raleighs) pointed out that it is a 1980's frame repainted in the current Neo Primato scheme. Go figure.

Remind me never to buy another frameset again in where I'm not familiar with the manufacturer.

I do hope the CR list fellows do not wish me to burn these things at the stake as imposters...

Take care,
