I think this a fascinating premise and one that interests me greatly since these are exactly the sort of parts that I try to sell at Velo Orange. But I will disagree on a couple of points.

Using Super Record as a base seems arbitrary. There was far better equipment to copy. For example SLJ derailleurs, retro friction shifters, various cranks, TA pedals, and Campy brakes didn't, and still won't match well setup centerpulls for modulation or sheer stopping power.

With today's higher disposable income a bespoke (couldn't help myself) frame is probably a better bet. Or how about an Ebisu road frame?

For cranks I think Stronglight Impacts or various TA models are better suited.

For pedals, what could be better than TA pedals, which are still in production?

The brakes could be Paul's racers.

Don Wrote Hi,

Plenty of steel frames are being made, but the supply of classic parts is finite and therefore declining. The only way to build new KOF bikes in the future will be to patronize NOS suppliers and KOF parts makers (defined as making clones of period parts, either in-period, or today.) I have noticed that it seems like there are fewer spare parts outlets for "classic styles" since several large retailers have recently merged.

What is available today in current production that can be used - either for spare high-quality parts or for "visual clones" - to build a circa 1980 "campy super record-clone bicycle" ?

Here's a draft list. Please respond via email with additions, subtractions, and/or corrections, and I'll summarize on friday.
