What a stroke of luck. I turned up a Sporting Cyclist to read an article about the Baty Brothers when I spotted an article by "Bill Mills"! Mills was the cycling correspondent of the News Chronicle for 30 years. This particular article was about the Lands End to London record. In 1932 Mills turned pro for Maurice Selbach with plans to attack place to place records. He did a training run from Lands End and with a howling tail wind "beat" the old record but the day after the training ride Selbach "ordered me off to Paris to ride the Paris to Roubaix race but that is another and more painful story". So it seems that C.W.(Bill) Mills an english time trialist who had never ridden a pro race did ride Paris-Roubaix.
