I have a NOS set of Sunshine/Sanshin track hubs up for sale on eBay, item 7240512366.
Recently, some more info about these came to light, but eBay in its wisdom will not allow me to further modify the listing, as there are few hours lef t in the auciton. Ordinarily I wouldn't bother you all with this, but now it' s pretty much the only place I can share this new knowledge.
Those illuminati among you forgive me for repeating the obvious, but I have been told that these are in fact Sunshine Pro Am track hubs, which were perhaps produced in the late 1970s. They are flip flop and come with an 8.8.8. cog, also NOS. The cog probably makes sense, since I now understand that Sanshin actually made most (all?) of the hubs that were later badged Suntour. The lockrings are unmarked, but perhaps they come from the same industrial complex. Other than "Sunshine" the hubs are marked "BIA," which I have no understanding of. Dating code?
Any thoughts on these hubs, confirmation or re-interpretation of them, stories about them being great or awful, smooth or rough, would be most appreciated, if for nothing else my own better understanding of what it is I'm about to part with. Personally, I think they're beautiful, and am prett y much regretting putting them up for bid in the first place, but then again, I can't keep everything.
Are these Pro Am hubs? Did Campy actually copy these to make C-Record hubs? Pray tell.
