I think it is moot...unless you bought it, but the only way to know if it would fit your Gitane would be to ask the seller about the length of the steerer. By the way, that is from a 1988 Gitane replica (Reynolds 753, campy dropouts), and therefore not accurate as far as anything that would be on topic.... Also, it would be English/standard threaded, and not French threaded, as Gitane abandoned French threading in the early 1980's.

Any early 1970's Gitane would, for accuracy, require more rake than that fork has.
