I agree with John Thompson. My new 1984 610 had full Shimano 600, but th previous year Trek 600 members had either other Shimano, or a lot of Suntour. Sorry to be vague, but I think the Vintage-Trek site is the best source of this history, beyond looking at original or nearly-original hardware.
