Subject: [CR]dating a Legnano

Greetings to all, hope the holidays were good to you as they were to me. I received a long-wanted copy of "The Data Book: 100 years of bicycle and accessory design"- absolutely fascinating book; MONTHS worth of geeking-out ! I just purchased a very rough Legnano road bike from a co-worker, and am trying to fix a date of manufacture for it. The bike has been crudely repainted; all original markings (other than the brass headbadge) are gone. Stats are as follows: Campy drop-outs front & rear, Campy 3-piece hi-flange hubs laced to Fiamme red-label tubular rims & Robergel DB spokes, steel (Cinelli?) stem, stamped 'Legnano' w/ very narrow, very deep-drop ttt bars. Gran Sport derailleurs, no pedals, and steel, 3-pin (Magistroni?) 'Legnano' crankset. The crank arms are stamped "C 55" on the back side, and it has MAFAC brakes (possibly not original; I've never seen a Legnano this old that did not have Universal brakes). It has a nice semi-sloping fork crown, with reinforcing tangs that extend about 8cm down the inside of the fork blades. I don't have the bike here with me, so I can't post the serial #- would this be of help? I would appreciate any input ; feel free to contact me , on or off-list.
