Subject: [CR]Alcyon Track bike on French Ebay

There is, apparently, a bit of a doubt, in fact a large doubt, as to whther this is genuinely an Alcyon.

Knowing that I am keen on French bikes, and that I purchase quite alot of t hem on French Ebay, a close friend of mine in France, who is also a well-kn own and respected seller on Ebay, actually telephoned me to advise me NOT t o bid on this machine

My friend knows of the seller of the Alcyon, says the bike is not an Alcyon and that some of the parts are certainly not original. Had the machine bee n as claimed, then my mate would have bid on it in any case.

I have several 1930 Alcyons, but admittedly no track irons. My Alcyons have distinctive frame features that are not on this bike..the fork crown for o ne instance. The seller claims that the hubs are Alcyon Campagnolo...never heard of them.

The chainset, had it been an Alcyon one would have had 3 letters "A" stamped into the design.

Admittedly the large aluminium Alcyon badge is legitimate, but I am not sur e from which date it applied, because Alcyon had five or six variations on the theme. The bar/stem unit resemble a unit on a 1936 Acyon T-d-F bike tha t I own..but the unit could of course been a non-Alcyon product available t o and used by a number of manufacturers, such as Automoto.

My friend suggested that the seller is new..and not very knowledgeable. If you have any doubts about this statement, check out the Stronglight double chainset that this seller has put up for sale., as he seems to be mixing up his Stronglight models with his Nervar ones.
