Dot dogma, nor a moral dilemma or even deserving an "ethics" header, just opinion:

the current rash of replica vinyl is probably fine for bikes that are repaints and will get thick glossy clear over them. Remember, even if the vinyl is only 4-5 thousandths of an inch thick, it takes a LOT of clear paint thickness to "bury" them (bury...an apt term if I ever heard one.)

In my mind the only decision point about using vinyl repros of original dry fix or waterslide transfers (apart from their actual graphic appearance) is if I want "as original" or (over)restored.
