Rich,

I may be wrong, but I think the migration of water bottle locations happened something like this:

- Aluminum water bottle (or pair) on handlebars

(nothing on down tube due to pump being there)

- Aluminum water bottle (or pair) on handlebars and down tube (Aluminum water bottle on down tube now that follow vehicles eliminated need for pump)

- Plastic water bottles replacing aluminum bottles in same above locatio ns.

- Single plastic water bottle on down tube only (better race logisitics necessitated less water to be carried - could get replacement water)

- Sometime in late 80's early 90's additional plastic bottle on seat tube (new trend in additional necessary hyrdation?)

I think this seat tube bottle trend post dates our CR cut off date of '83. Not sure.
