Don't know about the possible distortion, but Stronglight cranks will mount OK on TA axles and vice versa. Another useful trick which is pointed out in some older editions of Sutherlands is that Stronglight cranks will work with JIS standard Japanese axles, although it moves the chainline out 1 or 2 mm further from the frame.
