To avoid twisting vintage brake arms to achieve toe-in, put a small piece of brass sheet stock between the brake block and brake arm. Cut brass sheet stock into a small rectangle with a notch cutout for the brake shoe bolt, and place it in front of the brake shoe bolt. This functions as a wedge so that the brake shoe bolts down with a toe-in angle against the brake arm. This can be done with thick plastic cards too but brass looks vintage on an old bike. Several thicknesses of brass sheet stock are available at a hobby store. If a lot of toe-in is needed, bend over one edge of the brass sheet to get it even thicker, and then cut the piece. If you take your time, you can cut the brass piece so that it will hide behind the brake arm. ..........Peter ......................................
