"GET RID OF THAT MUSTY SMELL If old magazines or books or even stuffed toys smell musty, put them in a plastic bag with some kitty litter. Be sure to get the inexpensive brands that are just clay litter with no scents or clumping additives. Leave the bag closed for at least a week. Repeat with new litter if necessary."

YMMV (I've not tried it ...)

If you can't stand the smell, send the magazines to me. My daughter has cats and I'm saddled with odors I'm not too happy with anyway. ;-)
