Subject: [CR]1935 Maino Restoration

I have just received a 1935-ish Maino from Italy (BTW $185 shipping and no import duty 2 weeks elapsed time- UPS delivery with no damage). The bike has the Vittoria Margherita shifter( with a worn out kinked cable),flip-flop 3 cog rear hub, original brakes, stem, saddle etc. It has 27" aluminum 36 spoke clincher rims laced to original Maino hubs with oil ports. My question is: Could these rims be original or should they be replaced by tubular aluminum or steel rims or wood rims? The bike has full aluminum fenders and dropped bars, thus a "semi-racer".I do not plan to repaint the heavily patinated frame, just get it ready for the L'Eroica in a few years. All input is appreciated. Art Link,San Antonio,TX
