Thanks Wayne. All six of the rods here are lateral and parallel to one another, which is an obviously simpler design to yours, and I too thought of it being a prototype for Pino. Seems like it would be a good frame to test with, because of the large size.

Incidentally, the fork serial numbers don't match the frame, the fork date being one of 1972. There is the beginning of one tiny hole drilled into the steerer, which makes me wonder if he was going to give it some of the treatment he did to the Merckx bike, and then changed his mind or ran out of time. Not likely, but it made me think :)

Mark -

Those certainly look like Pino's stiffening rods all right. I wonder if he experimented on an existing frame before incorporating them in his own. My Telavio does not have the circular cut out in the BB shell. On the Telavio, the rods are on the three main tubes, two in each. In the down tube they are mounted laterally and on the seat tube they are longitudinal. On the top tube they are opposing. Is it the same on the Paramount? The Telavio frame is suspected to be from somewhere between '83 and '85. That Paramount is earlier.

Interesting.

Here's a new find ... it's a 1973 Schwinn Paramount Track frame that appears to have been modified by Pino Morroni with the addition of his famous "lateral stiffener rods" ... two hollow rods inserted laterally (i.e., from left to right) through each of the three main tubes, and brazed in place to stiffen the tall 60cm frame. There is also a circular hole cut out underneath the bottom bracket shell, which is not an original Paramount feature. Of the four or five Pino bikes I have pics of, only one shows the underside of the shell, which does not have the circle. Wayne, what does your bike have? To help seal the likelihood, I found a very unusual Roto made seatpost, also marked PATENT PINO, in a box lot of stuff that came with the frame. The post is 27.2mm, which happens to fit the Pinomount perfectly, of course. It's incomplete unfortunately, but maybe I can figure out a way to make the missing parts. Pics of the post will be added soon to my album linked below.

Wayne, Gene, Dave, etc. ... I'm convinced, but what do the other Pino nuts think ... is this a Schwinn ParaMorroni Track bike? Thanks for any opinions or knowledge.

If you just want to see the Pino parts, then go to pic 2 for a reference view, and then pics 8-11 for different close-ups of the hollow rods.

Here are pics of Wayne Bingham's Telavio with similar stiffener treatment ... my reference point: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/Wayne-Bingham/Telavio/
