Subject: [CR]Regina Freewheel Surgery - part 3

After snapping the pins on the Var tool trying to disassemble the retainer of the freewheel I tried a punch and hammer on the hole of the retainer. Still no movement.

A closer look at the retainer revealed a blob of bent metal on one of the edges of the FW removal notch. It was locking the retainer in place. A few passes with a file cleared the blockage.

Two swings of the hammer released the retainer, a rejuvenated pin tool did the rest.

The cogs are now off the hub exposing the spoke holes on both sides. A wheel build will do the rest.

Thanks to all those who provided advice and emotional support.
