Just checking mine (~1981) with a magnet and the threaded barrel might be chromed brass and the nut with the O-ring chromed steel. Heating the caliper arm should free the barrel because brass has a somewhat lower coefficient of expansion than aluminum. However, brass has a higher coefficient of expansion than steel, so heating the nut won't work, but maybe freezing the nut and barrel might.
