Subject: [CR]Final Ride Reminder Re: March 25 Spring New Jersey ride

Last Call for this Sunday's ride! 2:00 pm from 7 Presidents Park in Long Branch NJ, 22 miles, flat route, good shoulders outside the park and low traffic in Sandy Hook park. All bikes are welcome.

Please let me know if you're coming, so we won't leave without you. My cell is (816) 838-9721 if you're coming but running late.

The weather forecast is for a Paris Roubaix under cool, clear sunny conditions-- whoops, I'm channeling Jorgen Leth. Weather forecast is for low to mid 50s temps under sunny skies. Break out the woolies! I haven't been able to get a wind speed or direction forecast yet. But as I have scheduled a bike ride, one should prepare for icy bitter temps, freezing sleet, howling headwinds and an uphill route both ways. But perhaps this time we'll be lucky. Hope to see you there. Directions and details below.

To quote the late, great Melvin McKinney of the Temptations, "I can make it rain, whenever I want it to". All I have to do is schedule a bike ride. Directly on the heels of my announcment of the March 25th Spring kick off ride, there have been two subarctic blasts of freezing weather, and yesterday saw 3-4 inches of sleety ice/snow fall. I should rent myself out to drought stricken regions.

Nevertheless, we shall press on! On Sunday the 25th, we shall ride from Long Branch NJ to the Sandy Hook lighthouse, a 22 mile round trip. The long range weather forecast looks good: temps in the mid 50's with only a slight chance of rain. We have a nice # of RSVPs in, but more would be merrier. Details are below, hope to see you there!

Thomas Adams <thomasthomasa@yahoo.com> wrote: Well, after a very long stretch of dreary weather in this new year, today's riding conditions were excellent. Beloved Spouse and I did a nice 20 miles, and I'm glad to see that my vigorous winter training regimen, where I only gained 15 pounds and what little muscle I had turned to jello, allowed me to finish with only 3 instances of seeing stars and 2 spells of nausea (only one riding related, that road killed skunk would have gagged a buzzard). So since I'm already in tip top shape it's time to kick off the official CR Jersey riding season with our traditional Sandy Hook Lighthouse ride.

We meet on March 25 at 7 President's Park in Long Branch, NJ. The ride goes straight north along the sea shore to the Sandy Hook lighthouse, where we rest, regroup and then ride straight back. Road is nicely flat with only two highway over passes to provide elevation change, and shoulders are generally wide. Fixed gear conditions excellent to the point of being too easy. Total distance is 22 miles. Since we're getting Daylight Savings time early this year, lets meet at 2:00 pm, so we have the option of hitting a local eating establishment apres ride for refreshment. Hopefully this time will allow everyone to complete various Sunday morning chores and have plenty of free time to ride.

Directions to 7 Presidents Park: exit 105 off the Garden State Parkway, proceed east on Hwy 36 6.5 miles until you enter the park. Go too far, you'll hit the ocean. The only caveat is that there are numerous traffic lights between exit 105 and the beach, so allow 30 minutes or so from the GSP to reach the ride start.

Very limited sag/support on this one, this is designed to be a self supported/run what ya brung ride. Fenders are often useful, wool is common and chilly tootsies endemic. But maybe this year the sun will shine and temps will be balmy. We can only hope.

Please RSVP to let me know your coming. Ride leader will carry cell phone so call me if you're running late. My number is : (816) 838-9721. Hope to see you there. Additional bulletins/directions may follow, so stay alert. Filthy weather probably cancels, but I've got a puritanical streak that says suffering is good for the soul. Remember, the record low attendance is two riders. We should be able to beat that!
