I recently had the same problem with tight Continental tubulars,so I looped them over a doorknob and slung a 25 pound bad of lead shot over the bottom loop. After 2 days of the pre-stretch they went right on the rims. They were mighty snug, which might in part be due to the heavy duty, tightly woven cloth backing tape. Art Link,San Antonio,TX

I would be more than happy to dispose of everybody's Continental tubulars that are believed to be too small for a standard tubular rim, including those that are measured as being 3" too small in diameter. I will guarantee that I can get them onto my rims without damage to the tires or rims.

Continental tires are simply tight. they must be stretched. I recently received some Continental tubulars that appeared to be almost 5" in diameter too small, but they fit perfectly once stretched.

I have found a great way to stretch tubulars using three Craftsman adjustable reversible bar clamps. These devices have a pistol grip activated expanders that you can slowly stretch the tire around. I use three of them to make the pressure constant. I did the stretching over 2 days.
