The only tire saver I've ever used was my hand. If I can't avoid a patch of glass, I'll drag my hand, gloves or no, FORWARD of the brakes, on each tire for a couple of revolutons. I've never noticed a piece of glass stuck in my palm so maybe its a superstition, but it seems to work. I rarely get more then one flat a year (3k+ miles). LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Don't try this at home.
