The "Wolverine 200" is an annual 24 hour ride (personal best type challenge) held on Belle Isle by the Wolverine Sports Club, near the heart of Detroit, and on the Detroit River. Not a huge island so the route is a circuit, about 4-5 miles around, and as you can imagine, you pass the same spots over and over again. Fields, light woods, thick woods, open areas, picnic areas, waterfront, etc. I've heard stories of people being knocked off their bikes by perps who suddenly jumped out of the woods, only to watch the perps ride away on their bikes, and disappear off the circuit. This was also in the 1970s, when the island was still open to all comers while the Wolverine ride was going on. They solved the problem by closing off part of the island for the exclusive use of the riders and campers, and I think no bikes have been stolen for many many years now.

Ciao, Mark Agree Hoping to do 150 at the 200 this year, very close to home in Southfield MI USA ~ ~ ~

The riders from New York can be more accurate, but back in the late 70's, the story went around that a few riders who were dropped by the pack in a race around Central Park did in fact get mugged and have their bikes stolen...

Pergo, any comment?
