Hilary writes. British Standards say, Right lever to front brake, Left lever to rear, HUH! I am looking at a photo of myself with my 49 Claud Butler single fixed. (As Always) I had the Left lever, (the only lever), to the front brake, I always was a rebel I guess, but I always(again) had it this way, still do, why? What hand are you going to hold your bloody fag and pint in! Looking at old Cyclings from the 50s chaps racing seem to be split 50-50 on the left and right levers for front brakes, BUT all the adds for bikes DO show the Right for the front and left for rear. I have often wondered why Italian etc bikes had the stirrup arm on the other side to the Brit bikes, as I have often wondered about the reason the chain drive side is on the right? just like, why do the Brits drive of the left side and sit on the right, ( the whip right!) To think that for all these years I have been in violation of British Standards, WOW! better stay in the good old USA. Cheers John Crump OldwrongagainBrit, Parker Co USA
