Someone once told me a tale of one of the first guys to bring an Alfa-Romeo automobile to the 'States, in the early '50s.

The marque name was not plastered all over the bodywork as with modern cars.

Everywhere it went it would draw a crowd, because it was so different looking compared with U.S. cars that were the norm. The crowds would often disagree as to what kind of car it was, commonly falling into two camps:

One group would maintain that it was a "Destro" while the other group was sure it was a "Sinistro." They thought they were reading the brand name from the "hub caps" but the car had knock-off hubs, labeled as to the appropriate threading/location...
