I want the bike to be all campy and the hubs are the only thing holding me back, but if I have to spend $45 on new straight gauge spokes I don't see it being worth it since functionality won't change. Additionally, the spokes are bladded (i know sort of off topic) and I like them and I don't want to know how much new bladded or butted spokes would cost. I am asking here because I am sure this delima has come up with all the people here restoring vintage bikes. > > thanks > > Anthony Bier > > Vancouver, BC >

If this is dangerous, I'm in trouble, because I've done it a couple of times. I do it to preserve spokes that, for one reason or another, are difficult to get today. Theoretically, it's not the best thing to do, but in practice, as long as the spokes are in decent shape, you probably can get away with it. Worst case, you break a spoke. Or two. No disaster; just replace them. If you find that the spokes are breaking repeatedly, then you can think about respoking.
