I've got two Motta frames, one an early 80's Personal 2001 bought from a list member and beutifully restored by KoolBikes (did someone say they have stopped painting bikes?) with the help of photos from another CR member. I also have a more recent, but lugged steel, NOS Motta frame. I love the distinctive stays. Also the red, white and green Motta tricolore paint scheme is one of the coolest ever.

I'm not a great collector of Italian bikes, usually only buying those a little "different" from the typical Italian formula (Legnano, ALAN, Torpado). Both Gianni Motta the man and his bikes both fit the bill as a little "different".

Gianni Motta (you spelled it Gianna, which might be why you didn't find much on Google) was a very successful Italian racer in the 1960s and 70s, and opened up his factory, I think in the late 1970s. Pretty sure he hired his builders, and never built frames himself. The stays you describe sound like his Trans Torx system, a design which seemed to eventually be adopted by a lot of modern builders. Sounds like the bike is no earlier than the mid 1980s. Please excuse the modern parts, but here is a pic of my Motta (with Trans Torx stays), and I was informed by an enthusiast this it is from 1987: <_http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/fujifish1/MarksVintage/Gianni_Motta_Pers onal_2001_53cm_PearlSplash/_ (http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/fujifish1/MarksVintage/Gianni_Motta_Personal_2001_53cm_PearlSplash/) >

Also, here is a Motta frame from about 1980, for comparison: <http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/fujifish1/ID_or_Sale/Motta_80s_Copper/ >

My Wool Jersey stuff got all twisted around after Morgan's recent repairs, and this latter album has not been straightened out yet, so you might have a bit of trouble navigating through it in a logical order.

I think Lou Deeter has or had a Motta in the American flag theme, so perhaps he will chime in.

I have just acquired a Gianna Motta, it has an American flag paint job and was made with Columbus: acciaio chromoly cyclex tubing. No cerial number... It has a uniquely shaped seatstays as well. Can anyone give me any info on the builder, or anything about the company. I've had little luck with google. Thanks much.
